Joan Didion in the Paris Review
Although Joan Didion may be best known as the writer of A Year of Magical Thinking, she has been a journalist, novelist, and essayist for more than 50 years. Her articles and essays are a masterpiece of careful, analytic, yet highly personal reporting.
In 1977, between the publication of her novel A Book of Common Prayer and the appearance of her nonfiction books The White Album and Salvador, she was interviewed by The Paris Review in her home outside Los Angeles.
The interview was published in their 1978 Fall-Winter edition. View an excerpt online, or download the PDF for the full interview.
